I may not have my computer up and running yet, but my DVD player is definitely working. I got my copy today of The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season today, and I'm anxiously looking forward to watching the series again, especially with all the behind-the-scenes extras and commentaries on the discs. If you're a horror aficionado, then you owe to yourself to get this great series. I'm not a big fan of zombies, but I loved what Frank Darabont did with the genre and his cast of actors. This is certainly a "must" for any horror library filled with books and movies. Once I've watched the set, I'll do a review of the DVDs.
Coming up in the next few days will be a review of Vendetta: A Deadly Win: Tina Munroe Msytery by new author Nancy Niles. I really enjoyed her first novel and hope to see more the Tina Munroe character in future books. This was an excellent beginning for a series.
Last, I just finished the new Joe R. Lansdale novella, Hyenas, which has the return of Hap Collins and Leonard Pine in it. This was an absolutely great little book that kind of prepares the way for Joe's full-length novel, Devil Red, due out on March 15th. Hyenas had me laughing and rooting for good-old boys Hap and Leonard like I would for my favorite football team if I was a fan of football. I will say that the artist who did the cover got it totally wrong. Don't blame Joe for that. He voiced his complaint about the cover design, but it was evidently too late to make any changes in it. You see both of the men on the cover are supposed to be Hap and Leonard, but both of them are white. And, as the fans know, Leonard is black and proud of it. It's been my feeling for a long that that an artist who draws the picture on the dust jacket should have to read the book first before doing the cover. I know some artist do, but many simply don't want to waste their time. I've encountered this myself when paying someone to do artwork for me. Still, the drawing had to be signed off on by the publisher and this is when the mistake should have been caught and corrected. The obvious mistake doesn't take away from the fun of the novella and the feelings of being with family with Hap and Leonard finally returning after a two-year absence. I'm going to write a review of the novella and the short story that's included sometime during the next several days. I should also point out that I have the $45.00 Signed, Numbered edition, and I thought it was going to have a different cover than the Trade Edition. I was wrong on that. Both editions have the same cover, but different binding. Anyway, so much for that. The story is a great return for our Texas boys, and the story was worth every penny I paid for the book. I even got some free Vanilla cookies and a six-pack of Dr. Pepper with it! Hot dog!!!!
