A review of Darkness Bound by Larry Brooks

Larry Brooks' debut novel was DARKNESS BOUNDS, and it proved to be a truly excellent beginning for an author with remarkable skills as a writer. The story deals with Dillon Masters, a young stockbroker who has just separated from his lovely wife, Karen. One day, while killing time in an upscale department store, he encounters a breathtaking, leather-clad vixen (or perhaps I should say black widow). This woman is everything Dillon has ever dreamed of in the darkest corners of his mind, and he wants her as he has never wanted another woman. The chance encounter at the department store leads to a game of cat-and-mouth between the Dark Lady and our stockbroker as she slowly seduces him with her black magic. It isn't long before Dillon is completely under her spell and willing to do anything in order to have sex with her, but all is not what it seems. The men in the Dark Lady's life have the nasty habit of dying, and the emotional and physical price Dillon is willing to pay to be with this woman may be more than he can afford.

DARKNESS BOUNDS is a sensuous, erotic, and utterly suspenseful novel with enough psychological twists and turns to surprise even the most jaded reader. If a woman wants to know how to seduce a man, then this is the book to read. As the Dark Lady says, "Once she knows what buttons to push on a man, she can make him do whatever she desires...that it's all a mental game, and a smart woman will win every time." Larry Brooks definitely hits the nail right on the head with the psychology employed by his femme fatale. It certainly enabled me to see more clearly the mind games played on me by women in my past, not to mention the constant interaction flowing between men and women.

In fact, I loaned this novel to a female friend of mine at work so that she could read it. A week later, after she's finished the book, I heard her tell her boyfriend over the telephone that she planned on visiting him at the restaurant where he works, and that she'd be dressed in a black leather trench coat and spiked heels. She started laughing at his reaction, and then winked at me. Needless to say, DARKNESS BOUNDS is as much fun for the female reader, as it is for the male.
