When I moved into an apartment near work back at the end of February, I pulled my old computer out of storage and discovered that it needed a lot of work done on it. I found a person who works on computers at a very reasonable price. I then had a new hard drive put into my 2000 Gateway computer, plus I upgraded to Windows XP, Word 2007, had an antic virus program put in it, and I'm having the memory increased to whatever the processor can handle. I was hoping to my my computer back today, but it may be Friday, or even Monday before I get it. That's a long time to go without writing, except for what I put on my blog when I use the computer in the main office at my office complex. Patience, grasshopper!
I'm about 210 pages into Salem's Lot. I spilled green tea on the cover of the book today during lunch time. Fortunately, the cover wasn't damaged. I was able to clean the tea off of it with no side effects.
I pulled some more books out of the boxes in my apartment. I added the rest of the "Repairman Jack" series after Bloodline, some Ray Garton books, James Lee Burke, John Connolly, Lonesome Dove (that's a long one, but I've been wanting to read it since the mini-series was done for television), and I have to pick up a couple of novels by friends who have, or are in the process of getting, their first novel published this year (Lori--hint, hint).
Surprisingly, without a computer to work on, I've been sleeping at least ten hours a night, which is great for keeping the swelling down in my legs. Other than that, I've been reading a lot and watching dozens of movies on television and on DVD. Saw Tarzan the Ape Man with Johnny Weissmuller TCM on Saturday night. I used to watch the Tarzan movies when I was a kid and would drive my parents crazy by doing half-ass Tarzan yodels throughout the neighborhood. I always managed to get the dogs barking like wildfire. I had a big crush on actress, Maureen O'Sullivan, who played Jane in several of the films. I was just like Tarzan and Cheetah whenever she was on screen, excited and barely able to talk!
Hey, if you're a Russell Crowe fan, but haven't seen The Last Three Days, go rent it or buy it. The movie surprised me at how really good it is. The film is a slow burn, but, boy, the ending keeps you glued to the screen, even if you have to go to the bathroom. I mean what would you do is your spouse was accused of murder and all of the evidence proved him or her guilty? The thing is you know in your heart and soul he or she didn't do it, but you can't prove their innocence. Russell Crowe's character decides to break his wife out of jail before she can be taken to a maximum security prison. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat, wringing your hands, and pulling on your hair because the last twenty minutes is intense as hell. Do they make it to freedom, or are they caught at the last second? You have to watch it to find out.
I also watched Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, which was good and rather interesting. I wanted the ending, however, to have a clearer explanation of things, but it wasn't to be. Still, it's well worth a watch. Clint can do no wrong when it comes to directing a film. That reminds me, I saw Dirty Harry on television last weekend, too. Do you feel lucky, punk? I used to own a handgun just like Harry's--a Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum revolver with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I couldn't hit anything with it, but it sure was impressive. The handgun loaded weighed a ton, and I could barely handle the muzzle lift and recoil of it. I was better with my Ruger .22 caliber semi-automatic. LOL
I also watched Rudy for the tenth time on DVD. I needed the inspiration from that movie to help me get back into the swing of things when I get my computer back this week. I have so many things to rewrite this year and not enough time. Watching Rudy always gives me the hope that dreams can come true if you do the necessary work and don't give up. Rudy Ruttiger, in fact, lives here in Las Vegas, or the Henderson area, which right next to Vegas.
Okay, it's time to let someone else on the computer.
